I shouldn’t be here. I shouldn’t be successful. An alumnae of the foster care system, a mother suffering mentally in silence, variously in prison and on drugs, an absent father, the statistics would suggest my success was unlikely – an aberration even. Let me share with you how I proved everyone wrong!

From Trauma to Triumph is a roadmap. A road map out of a system that often offers no roadmap to success but one that instead inspired me to find my own way. With resilience, faith, and incredible mentors along the way, while obtaining my education. In addition to penning this book, I am currently walking in my greatness while identifying women who turned a negative situation into a positive outcome and identify as transformational leaders. My focus, like the one you’ll find in the pages of this book, is on post-traumatic healing and growth. Additionally, as the Founder of Fostering Greatness Inc. (2019), I have helped hundreds of young adults and foster alumni of color to succeed despite the many challenges they face along the way. As an “Alumni” – not a “former foster child,” I work toward ensuring young adults leaving the foster care system see a clear path ahead for themselves, a path that leads to success and stability.

A Mom of two beautiful girls and informed by the trauma I experienced in my formative years, I am very aware of the need to provide emotional support, consistent love, caring guidance, and to give my children all the things I lacked growing up. Education, parenting, advocacy, faith, and an innate desire to give back to the community that raised me, fuels me.
